Jan Brueghel was born in a family of Flemish painters in Brussels. He was the second son of Pieter Brueghel The Elder (1525-1569), who was a major landscape artist. Jan had been given several nicknames, called "Velvet", "Flower" and "Paradise" Brueghel - the nicknames were to some extent an effort to distinguish between members of the same family. His father was often called the "Peasant" Brueghel and Jan's elder brother, Pieter was called "Hell Brueghel" because he exploited the growing market for pictures of hell-fire and demons.

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) On March 30, 1853 a boy was born to the family of a Dutch village vicar, Theodorus van Gogh (1822-1885) and his wife Anne Cornelia, nèe Carbentus (1819-1907). A year before, exactly the same day, another boy was born to the family, he died, and now the new-born received his name: Vincent Willem van Gogh.

Munkácsy (1844-1900) was an outstanding Hungarian realist painter of the 19th century. He started to paint during the years he spent in Arad as a joiner. With the help of pardons he studied at the Viennese, Munich and Düsseldorf academies. Munkácsy painted his first major work, the outstanding "The Condemned Cell" in Düsseldorf in 1872, then together with his friend László Paál, he moved to Paris, where be lived until the end of his life.

Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1974) was a spanish artist whose name is almost synonymous with 20th century art. No artist was ever as famous as Picasso was in his own lifetime, or has been since. The controversies over his personality, arrogance, affairs with younger women, and unwillingness to be classified in the art world only added to his fame.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was educated in his father's house receiving the usual elementary education of reading, writing and arithmetic. In 1467 he became an apprentice learning painting, sculpture and acquiring technical and mechanical skills.
